The Waukesha North High School Orchestra enters the 2014-2015 season with a new director and a full agenda already being planned for the school year!

About the Orchestra
 

The Waukesha North High School Orchestra is 33 member string orchestra that has a long standing tradition of excellence and perseverance in the North HS community.  The ensemble performs several concerts throughout the year, separately and in tandem with the middle school and string academy students, creating a connection throughout all age levels of string performer

 

The ensemble is a perennial attendant of the Marquette Orchestra Festival, Wisconsin Philharmonic Festival, and WSMA, as well as other performance festivals.  most recently the esnemble traveled to Orlando, FL as part of a three school collaboration with the Orchestras at Waukesha South and Waukesha West to take home high ratings at a competition at Walt Disney World. 

 

Future plans for the 2014-2015 season include attendance at the Marquette and Wisconsin Philharmonic festivals, WMEA, and a potential trip to Boston, MA.  Included in that trip would be performance opportunites in both Boston and Syracuse, NY at Syracuse University master classes, highlighted with sightseeing and a concert of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  

 

Repertoire for the 2014-2015 season is still being finalized.  Current plans include music by the Beatles, Philip Glass, Aaron Copland, and Percy Grainger, with original compositions and arrangements by the director, Lansing Dimon. 

Lansing R. Dimon, Director
 

Lansing is the new Orchestra Director for the Waukesha North High School Orchestra.  He also serves as Assistant Band Director and Music Technology Teacher at Waukesha North High School. Along with teaching the 12 time State Champion “Northstar” Marching Band he also instructs Symphonic Winds and Percussion, music technology classes and 6th grade Band. Lansing has also taught courses in music appreciation and music in film online through eAchieve, the districts’ statewide online school.

 

 

Having almost 20 years of experience teaching and instructing, Lansing has taught music at every level K-12, from elementary music to middle and high school band to drum and bugle corps. Additionally, he has served in leadership positions on several boards of directors for alumni and fraternal organizations throughout his professional career and has higher education experience in student affairs, residence life and student programming.

 

 

Aside from his teaching responsibilities, Lansing is also the Director of Operations for the DCI Open Division drum corps Pioneer where he coordinates public relations, logistics for online media, fundraising, records management and technology. Previously Lansing had been involved with the corps as brass caption head in 2011 and 2012, and brass technician in 2008 and 2009. Past drum corps experience includes 16 seasons with the Syracuse Brigadiers as a marching member, instructor and board member and as a tech for Kingston Grenadiers and Spirit of Atlanta.

 

 

Lansing is a 1994 and 2005 graduate of Syracuse University, where he earned his B.M. in Music Education, M.S. in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation, and M.S. in Music Education. Licensed in both NY and WI, he is trained and certified to teach online in Wisconsin in online and blended formats and sought after to facilitate professional development in using apps and iPads in music and in developing eTextbooks in the 6-12 and music classroom.

 

 

Lansing is an adjudicator for New York State School Music Association and for the Wisconsin State Music Association for woodwinds, and is a member of the New York Federation of Contest Judges. His current training and development is in the direction of music with online learning, 1:1 educational systems with technology, blended learning and app development. He is currently pursuing a degree in Educational Administration from State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
